One week of walking

We walk from the Baltic Sea towards Nidaros in Norway, where the shrine of Saint Olav was, through the scenic countryside of the province of Hälsingland, between lakes Dellen, passing big wooden farmhouses, typical of this province, through deep forests to the Pilgrims’ chapel of Stråsjö, which is the final destination for this week’s journey. The pilgrims’ route continues to Nidaros, of course.

 

Departure days in 2010: July 19 and August 9 (or according to previous agreements)

 

Departure: Mondays at 12 o’clock at the medieval church of Enånger.

 

Final: Saturdays at 12 o’clock at the Pilgrims’ chapel of Stråsjö.

 

Length of daily walks: less than 20 kms.

 

Lodgings: youth hostel, pilgrims’ refuge, tents of Saami type.

 

Price: SEK 750 per day (approx. 77 Euro per day – For 6 days 360 Euro).

Included in this price are guidance, board and lodging, as well as baggage transport. You only have to carry light backpacks.

numbers or E-mail on the first page.

 

-          Day 1: Meeting point is the medieval church of Enånger, which has a lot of references to pilgrimages. There you can receive a Pilgrims’ blessing , your pilgrims’ passport and the first stamp in it. The first day’s walk is short and easy to the medieval church of Njutånger. Distance passed: about 12 kms.

-          Day 2: A somewhat longer walk on footpaths and small roads along the lakes of Forsa to the Pilgrims’ refuge close to the Catholic chapel of Sörforsa (inaugurated in 1909). Distance passed: about 19 kms.

-          Day 3: The pilgrimage continues, passing the lutheran church of Forsa and the community of Näsviken towards the southern lake Dellen, where we take a look at the remnants of the Iron Age fortress of  “Borgarberget”. Distance passed: about 12 kms.

-          Day 4: On this day the route passes the “Well of the Martyr Joseph”, with the scenic view from “Joseph’s Hill”. The Pilgrims’ path continues along the shore of the southern lake Dellen on the “Church road” to the Lutheran church of Norrbo. Distance : about 19 kms.

-          Day 5: Having looked at the remnants of the 17th Century fortress of Norrbo, the Pilgrims pass the northern lake Dellen. Shortly afterwards the route passes the church of Bjuråker and the museum village of “Bjuråkers forngård”. After that the route continues through deep forests until the old resting place for pilgrims, the “Well of the Cross”. Distance : 17 kms.

-          Day 6: This day the route passes the “Chalet of Havra” and the small lake of Halltjärn. The first glimpse of the Pilgrims’ Chapel of Stråsjö is to be seen att “Vinkällarberget”. This reconstructed Pilgrims’ Chapel is the final destination of this week’s pilgrimage. Distance passed: about 9 kms.
