SVEZIA - Halsingland's traditional farm houses
A 2 days walking tour
We invite you to visit, on foot, three of the most beautiful farm houses in the Northern part of the province of Hälsingland! During this walk there are many sights and interesting places to be seen. At the farms we can listen to the history of the farm and make a tour of it, but we can also taste local delicatessen as well as traditional dishes from this province. You only have to carry a light backpack. The rest of your baggage will be transported by us. Lengths of daily walks, 7 and 6 km respectively.
Day 1: Nirsgård, where we start our trip, is a living example of an old farm, where several generations live together with horses and other farm animals. The people of the farm will also show the banqueting rooms with unique wallpapers.
First of all we will have a substantial breakfast in the farm’s own cafeteria, where everyone can make his/her lunch pack.
We then walk on to the village of Näsviken, Tamm’s canal with the remnants of locks, and on to the linen factory. Then we follow a small gravel road, passing a potter’s shop and arrive at a place, where there once was a steam-driven sawmill. The place is very beautiful and an ideal site for our lunch.
After that we will be approaching “Frägsta kulturgård”, where Mrs. Eva Bovin welcomes us with a refreshing drink. Then she willl then show us around, amongst which there is a huge collection of clothes. Frägsta is an old farm with extensive lands that has well-kept old interior decorations in several rooms. Here we are to have a good dinner and then spend the night in comfortable beds.
Day 2: The morning after, having had an excellent breakfast, we move on at an easy pace on the small gravel road close to the river “Rolfstaån” towards the parish church of Forsa. Here we can have a look at the medieval stone house “Gillestugan”, which original purpose is unknown. We will have a coffe break somewhere along the road. At a suitable time for lunch we arrive at Trogsta, where John Bergström tells us about his farm, beekeeping and the products that are made at the farm. We can have a look at the farm’s own shop and perhap taste the products. If John is in the mood, and he often is, he will play a local tune for us on a traditional instrument, a keyed fiddle.
