Il Consiglio d'Europa ha certificato la Pilgrim Routes of Saint Olav

News from Sweden and all Scandinavia:

Here in Scandinavia we are very happy because the Coucil of Europe has awarded certification as a Cultural Route of Europe to Pilgrim Routes of Saint Olav of Norway.

During Middle Ages pilgrims from Northern Europe came to ”Nidaros” - the medieval name of Trondheim in Norway. There they could visit the Shrine of Saint Olav, King of Norway, who was killed in battle the 29^th of July 1030. There you can also read about the pilgrim routes and pilgrimages from the Swedish East coast towards Trondheim.

In Scandinavia we now try to connect our pilgrim routes to Trondheim so that you can walk from many directions, from Denmark, from Southern Norway and from Sweden. Also we try to connect our routes to Germany, and this makes it possible to walk from Sweden or Norway to Rome or Santiago de Compostela – or from Rome or Santiago de Compostela to Trondheim!

Before you come to Sweden to make a pilgrimage – please, contact us before! The routes are not like El Camino or Via Francigena. You will need maps and information before you start. If this is your first pilgrimage in Sweden we strongly recommend a guided tour!
